Through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) and the US Department of Labor, e-magnolia will focus on ensuring that individuals in Mississippi have access to online certificate and degree programs that are relevant to Mississippi’s workforce needs and economic conditions.  e-magnolia, also referred to as The Mississippi Workforce Online Learning Initiative Portal (MWOLIP), will offer individuals the opportunity of rapid retraining and reemployment through a proven technology-based learning delivery system to job seekers, incumbent workers, and dislocated workers, among others.  This initiative will allow customers in Mississippi to easily find appropriate online programs, even if they are being offered by out-of-state institutions.  Participants will also be able to complete training more quickly and conveniently than with traditional methods and rapidly reenter the workforce.  To search for courses, click here.

Financial Assistance Opportunities

Participants enrolling in courses that have been deemed high-growth target occupations and who are deemed good candidates for online training by WIN Center/MDES Staff shall be eligible for Mississippi WOLIP Scholarship.  Scholarships will be limited to the approved training costs and any additional cost or increase in cost will not be covered by the scholarship.  The participant is responsible for 1/5 (20%) of the cost of the training program.  Participants may receive support services from other programs, agencies or their employer to assist in their participation in training.    

 

Resources from the initiative will contribute to the cost of tuition and fees up to $3,000 that is required to participate and complete the training.

Is Online Learning Right for You?

Taking courses over the Internet is an exciting way to learn. It can save you hours of drive time and challenge your thinking in new ways. However, online education is not for everyone.  Before you enroll in any online course, please utilize the Student Online Readines Tool (SORT) and complete each section to make sure you are ready for online learning.  SORT will provide suggestions and links to other websites to address any weaknesses that you may possess.  Click here to enter the SORT website.     


Quick Steps: How to Apply for an e-magnolia.org Scholarship
1)  Take the Student Online Readiness Tool (SORT).  Remember, if you score poorly, SORT offers tips on how to improve the likelihood that you can be a successful online student. 
2)  If you score well on SORT, review the current courses offered on e-magnola.org by clicking here.   Select Mississippi from the drop down menu and continue.  Only the courses under "High Priority Subject Areas" are eligible for scholarship.
3)  If you find a course that you feel will help you get a good job or move up in your current job, then you may apply for the course.  Remember, you will be responsible for 20% of the costs.  To apply, click on the Online Registration tab on the top left of this page.
4)  Upon submitting your application and agreeing to the terms, your application will be reviewed.
5)  You will be contacted within 2-5 business days regarding your eligibility for an
e-magnolia.org scholarship.
